2026 Next Gen: Jim Foley

2026 Next Gen: Jim Foley

Jim Foley is one of the 2026 Next Gens, as nominated by Groups Today readers for making a difference in the industry with their fresh, progressive perspective.

As the Coordinator of Group and Member Sales at Eastern State—a Philadelphia nonprofit dedicated to justice education on the site of the world’s first penitentiary—Jim Foley ensures a memorable experience for every group and member visiting the historic site. Foley believes that strong connections with tour operators and other local attractions, paired with excellent guest relations, are the key to creating lasting relationships and optimal visitor experiences.

“My path to group travel began with a role in ticketing and customer service at Drexel Athletics, where I first discovered how rewarding it could be to create meaningful experiences for groups,” Foley shared. “At Eastern State, I get to connect visitors from around the world with one of Philadelphia’s most iconic landmarks. Each group visit offers a chance to engage guests with the city’s history, encourage thoughtful dialogue about justice, and leave a lasting impression.”

Foley is fascinated by how group travel continues to evolve as a way to educate and connect people across differences, especially with trends toward experience-driven travel itineraries.

“This kind of immersion, along with Eastern State's dialogic approach, inspires connection, reflection, and even in some cases civic action,” Foley explained. “I think that sites embracing experiential offerings will continue to build stronger, longer-lasting client relationships.”

When it comes to his career so far, Foley views his top accomplishment as a series of meaningful moments rather than a single event.

“While I have had the opportunity to work with high-profile VIP groups, like the last-minute tour I coordinated for the Liverpool Football Club players, I approach every group with the same care and attention, ensuring every visitor feels valued,” Foley said. “Each seamless visit helps groups connect with Eastern State’s history, mission, and programs in a personal and memorable way.”

Foley feels a great sense of pride when a school or tour operator reaches out directly to book their next visit, knowing it’s likely because their last experience must have been fantastic.

When looking to the future, Foley is focused on continuing to build strong relationships with tour operators and group leaders, creating visits to Eastern State that are engaging, educational, and memorable.

“I aim to help more people connect with the site’s history, mission, and programs in ways that leave a lasting impact,” he said, noting that he’s particularly inspired by Eastern State’s role in shaping conversations about justice. “As America’s first penitentiary, the site brings people together from across the country and around the world to explore the past, understand the present, and reflect on how we can create a more just future. Being part of this work and ensuring that every visit contributes to that mission is what drives me forward.”
