2026 Next Gen: Fred Ferguson
Fred Ferguson is one of the 2026 Next Gens, as nominated by Groups Today readers for making a difference in the industry with their fresh, progressive perspective.
Fred Ferguson is President & CEO of the American Bus Association and ABA Foundation, representing the $158 billion group travel industry. He leads ABA Marketplace, the National Bus Traffic Association, and major advocacy efforts. A former Vista Outdoor executive and U.S. House Chief of Staff, he’s managed $3 billion in M&A communications, directed national CSR strategy, and testified before Congress.
“I’ve always been drawn to the power of connection and real-life experiences,” Ferguson shared. “This industry brings people together in ways that few others can—creating shared memories, friendships, and a sense of community that lasts far beyond the trip itself.”
When it comes to what intrigues him about the industry at the moment, Ferguson’s response is keenly focused on the present.

“At a time when so much of life is lived through screens, group travel stands out for offering experiences that are greater than scrolling,” he said. “There’s a renewed hunger for authentic, in-person moments—and our industry is perfectly positioned to deliver them.”
Throughout Ferguson’s already highly notable career, his favorite accomplishments are ones close to the heart.
“Bringing my family to a variety of events and conferences has been incredibly meaningful,” Ferguson said. “It’s given them a firsthand look at this community’s authenticity and genuine care for people and experiences—and reminded me why this work matters.”
Ferguson’s goals for the future focus on expanding ABA’s membership and deepening the connections between bus operators and the broader travel industry.

“The stronger those relationships become, the more we can fuel growth, create jobs, and showcase the impact of group travel across North America.”
Ferguson holds an MBA from Oklahoma State University and enjoys family time, mentoring, and golf.
