Heather Colache: A Wealth of Atlantic City Knowledge

Heather Colache is the National Tourism Manager for Meet AC, Atlantic City Convention & Group Sales. During her 25-year tenure in the tourism industry, Heather has learned that there is often more to a city than first meets the eye.

This is definitely true for Atlantic City, New Jersey, home to tax-free shopping outlets, sightseeing opportunities, gaming establishments, sandy beaches, historic attractions, a vibrant arts community, varied dining options and world-renowned golf courses. Your group travelers will enjoy learning more about the city they may think they already know. It's more than casinos and gaming!

What should everyone know about Atlantic City?
There's a reason people have heard of the Boardwalk in Atlantic City: The world-famous permanent path spans 4½ miles of white sandy beaches along the Atlantic Ocean. Atlantic City is a year-round destination that offers tax-free shopping in more than 100 outlets. We offer dining options for all budgets and palates. Our shows and attractions appeal to the young and the young at heart. Visitors to our city can enjoy dolphin watching, skyline helicopter rides and the delights of The Steel Pier.

Beyond gaming, what makes Atlantic City a great group destination?
The Atlantic City area is home to a wealth of locations that celebrate its history. There are plenty of noteworthy sites along our famed Boardwalk, among them the famous Absecon Lighthouse, Atlantic City Aquarium, nearby historic villages, an abundance of antiquing, vibrant gardens, zoos and wineries. To get a feel for our arts, history and culture, consider Atlantic City Ballet, Atlantic City Art Center, Noyes Arts Garage of Stockton College, the Civil Rights Garden and New Jersey Korean War Memorial. The Steel Pier, the oldest amusement pier on the East Coast, will feature a new observation wheel in June 2016. The 220-foot wheel will feature a 29-minute climate-controlled rotation that can be packaged with food and beverage.

What are some of Atlantic City's dining highlights?
There's a lot to eat in Atlantic City! Our burgeoning culinary scene is getting attention as top chefs are opening restaurants here. (Think Guy Fieri, Bobby Flay, Gordon Ramsay.) We have a vast array of ethnic dining options, with authentic Chinese and Vietnamese offerings, and Italian, Japanese and south-of-the-border influences in the mix. Don't forget the mom-and-pop shops offering home-style fare, the classic Boardwalk cuisine and one of the most famous local joints—White House Sub Shop, an experience you won't want to miss!

What might surprise groups traveling to Atlantic City?
While a lot of visitors know us for gaming, they may not realize Atlantic City is home to other games and pursuits. We are ranked among the Top Ten Golfing Cities in America by, and are one of the premier golfing destinations on the East Coast.
