Ulysses S. Grant Home Site of Civil War Re-enactment
Thousands will flock to Ulysses S. Grant home site for a Civil War re-enactment. Battles, period dress and dance, and a 19th-Century Bazaar will round out the weekend.
Swarms of 1860s blue and grey uniformed soldiers will call Galena, Illinois, home during General Grant's Home Front Civil War Encampment, April 24 – 26. Travel back in time with re-enactors from all over the region.
The robust schedule includes a military drill, two battles, a 19th-Century Bazaar, period dancing, living history stations, and a period church service. Civilians in period-correct attire will grace the camp in living-history fashion all weekend. The public is invited to watch the proceedings of camp life, observe medical technology of the time, and witness re-enactments of the Siege of Vicksburg and the Battle of Fever River. Take advantage of local historic tours, including The Grant Home and The Washburne House. And check out the largest collection of Grant memorabilia in the world, at The Old Market House!
