2024 Next Gen: Katie Stanley

Katie Stanley is one of the 2024 Next Gens, as nominated by Groups Today readers for making a difference in the industry with her fresh, progressive perspective.

Katie Stanley | Group Sales Manager | Virginia Arts Festival

A proud resident and ambassador of Norfolk, Katie Stanley represents the largest performing arts organization in Southeastern Virginia as Group Sales Manager for Virginia Arts Festival. It's in this role that she welcomes groups from across the country and internationally to experience more than 70 world-class performances each year, including the Virginia International Tattoo.

"I have a background in event planning, so I like taking a holistic approach to a group's experience while visiting Virginia Arts Festival," Stanley said. "It energizes me to help put those pieces of the puzzle together for travelers."

Katie believes that access to diverse artistic experiences is an important building block for individuals and communities, and incorporates a joy-driven approach to her work.

"Connecting with people is very important to me. I have the opportunity to bring groups to our area to experience world-class performances, eat in our restaurants, stay in our hotels, and visit the multitude of attractions that Coastal Virginia offers," Stanley said. "I get to build relationships and create customized experiences based on those connections."

Throughout all of her accomplishments so far, there are a few that stand out in Stanley's mind, including hosting over 100 domestic and international groups during the 2023 Virginia International Tattoo.

"The cast changes every year, and this year included an all-female drum corps from Ukraine, 'The Crazy Drummers,'" Stanley said.

She recalled getting the opportunity to coordinate a meet and greet between the drummers and a group of visiting families from Ukraine.

"That was such an affirming moment for me, seeing that this work brought people together during such a war-torn time," Stanley said. "The pictures I have from that moment exude joy and made me feel like I am exactly where I need to be."

When looking to the future, Stanley looks to continue her work through the lens of accessibility, equity and inclusion for groups everywhere.

"I believe that in order to heal and nurture communities, it is essential that every person have access to travel to new places and see a diverse array of art."
