Welcome to a journey through the picturesque landscapes and historical gems of Dubuque County, Iowa and the surrounding areas.

This itinerary will guide you through elegant historical homes, rustic charming barns and vibrant gardens—each offering a unique glimpse into the area's rich heritage and natural beauty!

DAY 1: HOMES OF THE AREA

Mathias Ham House
Start the morning off at the Mathias Ham House, where you can tour the home of this 19th-century entrepreneur. This stop is perfect for the history buff, architecture aficionado, or anyone looking for a captivating glimpse into the past. It's sure to leave a lasting impression. Did you know that Mathias Ham's nickname was the Sauerkraut King?

Historic Progressive Dinner
Next, enjoy a Historic Progressive Dinner, where you dine and explore three unique properties, one being the Fannie Stout House. This house, built in 1893 by Henry Stout and given to his daughter Fannie in 1898 as a wedding present, is a perfect example of eclectic architecture. The house is filled with rich characteristics, including beautiful woodwork, stunning chandeliers and stained-glass windows.

Dyer-Botsford Historical House and Doll Museum
After lunch, travel west to Dyersville, Iowa, to see the Dyer-Botsford Historical House and Doll Museum, a Victorian mansion that was the first frame house in Dyersville. Explore the history of Dyersville and see interesting displays, including 2,000 dolls.

Field of Dreams Movie Site
Next, visit the famous farmhouse surrounded by corn and baseball at the Field of Dreams Movie Site. Tour guests can recreate their favorite scenes from the movie, have conversations with a ghost player, or run the bases. End the day with a catered meal in the barn at the Field of Dreams Movie Site.

DAY 2: RUSTIC & CHARMING BARNS

Irish Meadows Alpaca Farm
Start the morning off heading south to Irish Meadows Alpaca Farm, where groups can learn about these famous show alpacas and the family's history.

Breitbach's Country Dining
After visiting Irish Meadows Alpaca Farm, guests will travel to Breitbach's Country Dining for a famous homemade buffet. This historic establishment is known for its hearty meals and welcoming atmosphere.

Berning Acres
After lunch, explore Berning Acres, a dairy farm known for its charming scenery and engaging activities. Berning Acres is passionate about educating others about agriculture and the dairy farm industry.

Morocco Supper Club
End the day at Morocco Supper Club, a family-owned restaurant known for its world-famous chicken. Enjoy a delicious meal and relax after a day of exploration.

DAY 3: VIBRANT GARDENS

Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens
Start your day by exploring the Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. Depending on the season, you can see a variety of blooming flowers:

  • Spring: Tulips, daffodils and lilacs.
  • Summer: Peonies, Roses, daylilies and hostas.
  • Fall: Chrysanthemums and asters.
  • Winter: Evergreen trees and shrubs.

Wanderwood Gardens
Next, visit Wanderwood Gardens (new for 2025), a winding forest of make-believe and discovery that takes adventurers on an enchanting journey in nature.

Eagle Point Park
After Wanderwoods, head to Eagle Point Park, which offers stunning views of the Mississippi River and beautifully landscaped areas for you to explore.

Convivium Urban Farmstead
In the afternoon, visit Convivium Urban Farmstead. Enjoy farm-to-table dining with a focus on locally sourced ingredients and explore their urban farming projects.
