Escape the Cold in St. Lucie

Escape the Cold in St. Lucie

Home to historic Fort Pierce, vibrant Port St. Lucie, and the beautiful beaches of Hutchinson Island, St. Lucie, Florida offers an array of options for groups to relax or hit the ground running with activities.

Located on the Atlantic Ocean along the east coast of Florida, there's no better place to soak up the sun during the harsh winter months. Check out our list of top things to do while visiting.

Beach Tours on Horseback
There's no better way to see the beaches of St. Lucie than on the back of a horse. It's the only place in South Florida where groups can ride a horse on the beach. This slow-paced, gentle ride down the Fort Pierce natural, isolated sandy shoreline will stay in the vacation memory banks forever.

Free and Beautiful Beaches
Looking for the perfect beach getaway? St. Lucie offers 21 miles of uncrowded and pristine beaches where nearly half the coastline is public preservation—a rare characteristic for a South Florida beach destination. In fact, visitors enjoy more public beach access points per square mile than any other coastal community in Florida. Many beaches have amenities for an entire day at the beach including restrooms, showers, picnic pavilions and more.

National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum
The National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum is the only museum in the world dedicated solely to preserving the history of the U.S. Navy SEALs and their predecessors. The museum is located on North Hutchinson Island in Fort Pierce, which were once the training grounds of the original Naval Combat Demolition Units and Underwater Demolition Team during World War II. This state-of-the-art museum features interactive exhibits, retired air and watercraft, rare artifacts and an onsite training obstacle course to see if you can put your Navy SEAL skills to the test!

The Historic Sunrise Theatre
The beautifully restored and intimate 1,200-seat Sunrise Theatre, located in historic downtown Fort Pierce, presents national touring Broadway shows, musical and comedy acts, ballet, country stars, and classic rock icons. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Sunrise Theatre opened its doors on August 1, 1923, as the largest theater on Florida's East Coat between Jacksonville and Miami. It quickly became the center of all St. Lucie County's cultural activities.

Spring Training with the New York Mets
Escape the cold and catch America's favorite pastime in Port St. Lucie! Every spring, the New York Mets set up shop to play ball and train. Groups could enjoy coming out to the field to watch games and open practices as the Mets prepare for their upcoming season. If you're lucky, you may even get a close-up photo of your favorite player and signed memorabilia.

Downtown Fort Pierce Farmers' Market
The Downtown Fort Pierce Farmers' Market is a great Saturday morning outing for visitors and locals alike. Consistently ranked one of the top ten farmers markets in the nation, the Downtown Fort Pierce Farmers' Market offers fresh local produce, seafood, honey, and flavorful sauces, along with locally made and/or grown soaps, candles, plants, and much more. Be sure to visit one of the food vendors serving up hot breakfasts, smoothies, gyros or fresh donuts—not to mention enjoying the scenic view overlooking the Indian River Lagoon.

Take a Hike
Guided hikes are available at some of St. Lucie's most unique nature preserves where groups could learn about the wildlife and history of the area, along with proper trail etiquette and cool tools that will make the trek even more enjoyable. There are over 20 different preserves to choose from, each offering a variety of amenities from hiking trails, observation areas, disc golf, fishing and more. Plan your day in the outdoors and spend some time in one of Florida's most beautiful areas of natural resources.

Golf One of the Many Courses
With about 240 days of sun each year and nearly two dozen public and semi-private courses, St. Lucie is a golfer's dream come true. Start out at the famed PGA Village Golf Resort, ranked among the "75 Best Golf Resorts" by Golf Digest. PGA Village has three public courses designed by Tom Fazio and Pete Dye—the Wanamaker, Ryder and the Dye. Together, they offer 54 holes of championship golf.

Treasure Coast Wine & Ale Trail
This tasting trail has 12 stops that include 10 local breweries, a winery and a cidery—giving locals and visitors a true sampling of local flavor. From small nanobreweries to larger breweries, the Treasure Coast Wine & Ale Trail will introduce groups to a vibrant, diverse group of entrepreneurs who are helping redefine the character of the coast, one perfect pint at a time. Cheers to locally crafted beverages!
