Bees, Birds and Butterflies: Hands-on Fun
Explore the natural world in Dearborn County, Southeast Indiana—where garden centers, artists, farms, wetlands, a brewery and a feed mill offer one-of-a-kind group experiences and hands-on fun.
Groups can taste a variety of honey, harvest flowers, paint birdhouses, craft a fused glass butterfly suncatcher and more. Activities vary by season, so mix and match options for unique "Bees, Birds & Butterflies" itineraries.
Lifelong learning and hands-on fun at its best, here's a glimpse at the memories and memorabilia groups could bring home from their tour:
Birdhouses
Whether functional for outdoors or decorative for indoors, the hand-painted birdhouse will add a touch of whimsy wherever it's placed. Choose from an assortment of unfinished wooden birdhouses and add ink stamps, paint and your imagination!
Pollinator Gardens
Pollinator gardens are irresistible to the nectar lovers. Butterfly larvae feed on plants such as dill, fennel and milkweed. Groups can choose from select varieties of annuals and perennials and plant a mini pollinator garden in a large clay pot. It's a perfect way to attract bees, birds and butterflies to patios and balconies.
Glassworks
Travelers can try their hand at glass-cutting and create a beautiful butterfly garden suncatcher to display in their window for year-round enjoyment. Pieces will be kiln-fired and shipped to participants.
Each hands-on class generates a $1 per passenger donation by the class provider to Southeast Indiana-Dearborn County's Tour for the Cure® supporting the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, Tour for the Cure® offers groups the opportunity to "Have Fun, Give Hope" as they enjoy creative itineraries.
