These Airports Have the Best and Worst TSA Security Wait Times
While giving yourself enough time at the airport is always a smart choice, it can be difficult to predict exactly how much time groups do—or don't—need.
A new study conducted by Upgraded Points breaks down which of the 25 most-traveled airports have the best and worst TSA security wait times, to help your travels proceed without any hiccups.
BEST AVERAGE WAIT TIMES
1. Salt Lake City International (SLC) | The best time to travel is on Wednesdays from 6 – 7 p.m., with an overall average wait time of 9.1 minutes.
2. Washington Dulles International (IAD) | The best time to travel is on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 – 11 p.m., with an overall average wait time of 10.5 minutes.
3. Boston Logan International (BOS) | The best time to travel is on Thursdays from 10 – 11 p.m., with an overall average wait time of 10.6 minutes.
4. Minneapolis-St. Paul International (MSP) | The best time to travel is on Saturdays from 8 – 9 p.m., with an overall average wait time of 13 minutes.
5. TIE: Charlotte Douglas International (CLT) and Detroit Metropolitan (DTW) | The best time to travel out of CLT is on Wednesdays from 4 – 5 a.m. The best time to travel out of DTW is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 – 11 p.m. Both have an overall average wait time of 13.2 minutes.
WORST AVERAGE WAIT TIMES
1. Newark Liberty International (EWR) | The best time to travel is on Fridays from 10 – 11 p.m., with an overall average wait time of 23.1 minutes.
2. George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) | The best time to travel is on Wednesdays from 5 – 6 a.m., with an overall average wait time of 19.8 minutes.
3. Miami International (MIA) | The best time to travel is on Sundays from 10 – 11 p.m., with an average overall wait time of 19.6 minutes.
4. Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) | The best time to travel is on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 – 11 p.m., with an average overall wait time of 18.2 minutes.
5. McCarran International (LAS) | The best time to travel is on Tuesdays from 6 – 7 p.m., with an average overall wait time of 17.3 minutes.
