ETIAS Delayed: No Official Launch Date

ETIAS Delayed: No Official Launch Date

Groups who’ve been planning travel to Europe will likely have been keeping tabs on the implementation of the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS), a new entry requirement for visa-exempt nationals—including U.S. citizens—traveling to 30 European countries for short stays. While the original implementation date was set for late 2026, European Union officials have now shared that ETIAS no longer has an official launch date.

In order to keep travelers in the know, EU officials say they’ll announce the new date several months before ETIAS becomes operational as a 2027 launch is becoming the most likely outcome. Travelers don’t need to apply for ETIAS just yet, as the application system is not open.

Officials recommend signing up for updates.
