Beauty Worth Saving

Shedd Aquarium is bringing guests closer to the stunning and surprising spectrum of shapes, sizes, movement, patterns and colors of animals in the aquatic world to inspire the notion of "beauty worth saving."

Underwater Beauty houses over a thousand animals representing 100 species from across the globe, including eels, sea jellies and shrimp that can break glass.

"At Shedd Aquarium, we peel back the water's surface to connect millions of people to the discovery of animals and life beneath," said Bridget Coughlin, Ph.D., president and CEO. "This new special exhibit allows the opportunity to peek at the stunning and unexpected beauty of their world and to be enthralled by their remarkable biology and colorful adaptions. We want our guests to look nature in the eye and become inspired to take action."

The exhibit is designed to astound the senses and showcase unique features of beauty under the water's surface, through five distinct rooms. In Shimmer, guests discover how hundreds of Atlantic false herrings moving together in unison reflect light. Color celebrates the bold; Patterns, the busy; and Rhythms, the way fish move.

Move You offers guests an opportunity for quiet reflection with a relaxing soundscape, in a room where dozens of species.

From four-eyed butterfly fish, rainbow fish and seahorses to an octopus and barracuda, the exhibit offers guests an opportunity to celebrate the countless forms of beauty found in the aquatic world.

"This is beauty worth saving," said Dr. Coughlin.
