Events will take place throughout the year to celebrate 60 years of Queen Elizabeth II's reign. At the Windsor Castle on February 4, an exhibit displaying 60 photos of the Queen will be on display. Regional and international visits will be depicted as will important personal and family milestones. The exhibition will close in January 2013. www.royalcollection.org.uk
In April-September, the Hampton Court Palace will host an exhibition of love, glamour, celebrity, lust and power. The Wild, the Beautiful, and the Damned will feature artwork and Royal Collection items that are not currently on display.
In May, a performance of tribute will showcase more than 500 horses and international expertise. The Windsor Castle will be the location for dance, music, military and equestrian displays from around the world in the Around the World in 60 Years and 90 Minutes. The show will reflect the Queen's State and Commonwealth visits throughout her rein.
Official celebrations will take place the weekend of June 2-5 including the Sunday Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant during which a procession of 1,000 boats will travel the River Thames from Battersea to Tower Bridge, flanked by the Royal Barge transporting the Queen. The boat parade is expected to be the largest televised event of 2012. A country-wide jubilee lunch will be celebrated by countrymen on June 3 in an effort to connect all citizens of England.
At various locations across the country, displays of England's long history of beacon lighting will be recognized in a mass beacon lighting ceremony beginning on June 4.
Six million trees will be planted throughout the country in honor of the jubilee thanks to the Woodland Trust. These Jubilee Woods will transform the landscape and provide a lasting legacy across more than 60 acres.
