Following President Barack Obama's State of the Union Address, the U.S. Travel Association announced that it will push for an increase in recognition among United States policymakers in order to bring more attention to the travel industry's significance to U.S. economy.

"The world is experiencing a travel boom, and the United States needs to be part of it," said Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association.

The travel industry in the U.S. makes up $1.8 trillion and is growing, according to Dow. As such, the U.S. Travel Association launched a "Vote Travel" initiative last week that it hopes will highlight elements of travel essential to the country's economy. The campaign will target political conventions throughout this year.

"Travel supports more than 14 million jobs in local communities and states across the nation," said Dow. "By casting a vote for travel, our industry can increase jobs, help our economy recover and get America moving."

Through "Vote Travel," the U.S. Travel Association will stress the need for travel industry policies and seek the support of political candidates as well as voters especially in key congressional districts. The campaign will deepen grassroots support of travel to, from and within the U.S., and use social media platforms to convey its message.

Using digital strategies over social channels including Twitter, Google and Facebook will bring "Vote Travel" to those within and outside of the travel industry.
