The Arkansas Delta has produced legendary artists, iconic performances and historic events that shaped the music of the region and the world. The Sounds of the Arkansas Delta tour offers a chance for your group to get an up close look at the places and faces that not only made music but made history in The Natural State, including Levon Helm, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, B.B. King and more.

Johnny Cash Boyhood Home

This humble house surrounded by cotton fields in Dyess, Arkansas, gives a fascinating look into the early life of the Man in Black. See his first home and the early inspiration for some of his most enduring music.

Levon Helm Markers

Levon Helm, drummer, lead vocalist and founding member of The Band, is a native of Elaine, Arkansas. You can find several references to Helm’s legendary career and his time growing up in the Arkansas Delta, including historical markers in both Turkey Scratch and Phillips County west of Helena-West Helena.

Rock ’N’ Roll Highway 67 Museum

In the 1950s, clubs along this stretch of highway from Newport to Pocahontas played host to Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Conway Twitty, Sonny Burgess and more. The Rock ’N’ Roll Highway 67 Museum in Newport chronicles the feats of these greats and shows the popular music progression that occurred to create what we now know as Rock ’N’ Roll.

Guitar Walk

The Guitar Walk is a 115-foot x 40-foot concrete guitar, complete with frets, strings and unbelievable detail. Along the edges are plaques that pay tribute to the early legends that performed up and down Highway 67, giving birth gave birth to Rock ’N’ Roll.

Delta Cultural Center

See one-of-a-kind memorabilia and art that provide a glimpse into the rich musical heritage of the region. The Delta Cultural Center also houses a broadcast booth where two recurring programs celebrate this deep-rooted history. The legendary King Biscuit Time radio show is broadcast Monday - Friday from 12:15 - 12:45. Each Friday from 1:00 – 1:30, Delta Sounds showcases artists from a variety of musical genres.
